In an interview with NV, UAF President Andriy Shevchenko spoke in detail about the introduction of new technologies in Ukrainian refereeing.

Andriy Shevchenko

- Andriy Mykolayovych, a month has passed since you took over the UAF. There are probably much more problems than it seemed at first.

- No matter how difficult the situation is, it is necessary to find opportunities for development. I have chosen this path and will not look back. I understand what needs to be done, what steps are needed to change the situation.

- What first steps have you taken and what do you plan to do in the future?

- We discussed the future development of Ukrainian football with representatives of all regional associations. Their suggestions and ideas will be carefully analysed. We suggested that the regional organisations create a new platform for more effective interaction and development of the necessary solutions - the Assembly of Regions. This association is currently being formed. We also met with representatives of the UPL and PFL clubs. One of the main issues for both organisations is arbitration. More precisely, the problem with unfair refereeing in Ukrainian football. There is a request for specific steps to help remedy this situation.

We have already changed the chairman of the referees' committee. Luciano Lucchi will be replaced by Kateryna Monzul, who has vast experience and authority in Ukraine and internationally. Next, we will introduce the practice of mandatory polygraph testing for referees, as well as a draw when appointing referees for matches. Previously, our referees had little trust, which was a great concern for both club management and fans.

Polygraph is a proven method that gives results. I communicate with many experts and know that not only special services, but also many business structures use lie detectors in their work.

A polygraph is also a protection for the arbitrators themselves. When you have successfully passed the detector, you will feel calmer and you will not need to prove that you are not involved in any cases of foul play.

- Then maybe we should make players and coaches take a lie detector too?

- My responsibility is the referees trained by the UAF. As for the procedure for players and coaches to undergo a polygraph, let the club managers decide on this issue.
