Former Dynamo and Ukraine national team defender Yuriy Dmitrulin has told about an incident that happened with the national team in 1999.
"We played against Armenia and left for the airport. We handed in our luggage and entered the plane. It had already taxied to the runway and started to pick up speed. And then there was a sound like an explosion. As they explained to us, it was an engine stall. That's when the hot air hit the air intake and exploded.
Masks fell out in the cabin. Everyone got scared and started shouting, "Stop!" Everyone reacted differently on the team to the situation - you realise everyone has a different threshold of fear. One shrank, another fell to the floor, the third started shouting, and the fourth sat calmly. Let's just say they were scared. All in all, a very unpleasant situation.
The engines were shut down and everyone was taken out of the aircraft. They said that now we will repair it and fly away. And everyone was so stressed that "we will repair it". They made a phone call to Kiev - and a second plane was sent for us.
And the delegation went to a bar to relieve stress," Dmitrulin said.
