Oleg Dulub: "This is a terrible experience. But look at how the football business has adapted to the war realities!"

Oleh Dulub, head coach of the Cherkasy LNZ, shared his thoughts on how the Ukrainian championship has changed in the wartime realities.

"This is a terrible experience that Ukraine is going through. I never in my life could have imagined that I would see it with my own eyes.

But look at how the football business has adapted to the war realities! For various reasons, players who have not been given a chance to express themselves can do so. And for coaches, this is an opportunity to realise their ideas and vision of football.

If you look at Kryvbas and their game structure, you see that you can take some things for your game. Zhytomyr has a completely different view of football. In these conditions, the personality of the coach who leads the team can come to the fore. How much the management is ready to support the coach, to give him time.

In the off-season, I re-read Carlson's book about the work of managers in the Premier League. I studied De Zerbi's working methods. What he uses, what means. It would seem that we opposed each other in Ukraine, but his methods of work are admirable. While working at Karpaty, I read Marcelo Bielsa's book Philosophy of the Game in English, and it made a similar impression.

This makes me think, when I first gained experience in the UPL and now in 2024, how much the league has progressed in the coaching vision of football. Now you see the work of a coach in almost every team. You understand what they want from their teams. Unfortunately, during the championship, you have very little time to devote to self-education," Ukrainian Football quotes Dulub as saying.
