Jozsef Szabo: "Shovkovskyi is setting up the team in the most serious way"

Former Dynamo and Ukraine coach Jozsef Szabo shared his impressions of Kyiv's 1-1 win over Veres in Rivne in the 20th round of the Ukrainian league.

- Could there have been an underestimation of Veres by the capital's team?

- No. I don't think Shovkovskyi can do that. I know his psychology too well. He sets up the team in the most serious way. This is a hundred per cent.

- What can you say about the tumultuous events of the end of the match?

- In the time added to the second half, when a penalty was awarded to Dynamo, there was a clash. The referee was surrounded by the players and emotions began to run high, which led to a bunch of yellow cards. Our football is beginning to resemble events that often happen in the English Premier League, Italian Serie A and Spanish La Liga. For example, Barcelona recently played Barcelona - in that match, a quarrel lasted for ten minutes, and the referee had to take a red card out of his pocket. It was also because of the penalty episode. The referee awarded it anyway. There, in the leading European championships, no matter what the tour, there are emotions and quarrels on the field, yellow and red cards - all this is there. But there's a lot of money there, and we have a pittance.

- After the match, Dynamo's Vladyslav Dubinchak admitted that he immediately realised that if there was a VAR review, a penalty would be awarded.

- It happens. Those referees who act as video assistants for VAR look and look at the controversial episode and then say to the head referee: "You go and have a look. It seems to us that there was a violation. In the end, look for yourself." The referee looked and said that there was. So when the referee goes to watch the video replays on the monitor in such cases, it is one hundred per cent certain that he will award a penalty.
