"Chelsea could be deducted points for financial fair play violations

In May 2022, Todd Boely acquired Chelsea in London. Since then, the Blues have been very active in the transfer market and spent over a billion dollars

Not only did this not have the desired effect on the football field for the London club, but it may also have consequences in the form of sanctions for Pochettino's team. This is because of Chelsea's unsatisfactory financial balance.

According to the rules of the Premier League, clubs are allowed to incur losses of up to £105 million over three seasons. "Chelsea, after spending heavily, has significantly exceeded this figure, complicating its situation by the lack of income from European competitions.

Financial expert Stéphane Borson said that the Blues would have to try hard to avoid a penalty in the form of a point deduction for violating financial fair play. The Premier League will closely monitor Chelsea's transfer work in the summer, as the Londoners will have to cover the budget deficit, which reaches about 200 million pounds.

"The scale of Chelsea's problems looks much worse than Everton's and Nottingham's. It is very likely that they will also face charges and could be deducted points by the end of the year," Borson said.

For violation of financial fair play in the 2023/2024 season, 6 points were deducted from Everton and 4 points from Nottingham Forest.

To improve the situation, the London club included the sale of Mason Mount to Manchester United for 55 million in the last campaign, as transfers of pupils are immediately fully accounted for in income, while others are distributed over the term of the contract.

Therefore, similar actions will probably have to be used in the summer of 2024. Of the players who are graduates of the Blues' academy, Chalobah, Gallagher and Broya are the most valuable. However, the deals will need to be closed by 30 June, which is a challenge.
