Oge Hareide: "Everyone is waiting for the final, there are no favourites in such duels"

Iceland head coach Oge Hareide told what he expects from the match against Ukraine in the final play-off round of the Euro 2024 qualifying round, which will take place tomorrow in Wroclaw.

"All the players in my team are ready for tomorrow's match. As a democratic country we sympathise with Ukraine. Iceland, like many countries around the world, is accepting refugees from Ukraine. But we are athletes, footballers, and we have to concentrate solely on football.

Sometimes we have to use a more defensive scheme, but we are an attacking team. The Ukrainian national team is very strong and has great performers. But tomorrow everyone is waiting for the final, and in such matches there are no favourites. I think the chances are 50/50. But if everyone considers Ukraine the favourite, it may put pressure on our opponent. Perhaps it will play into Iceland's hands," Hareide said at today's pre-match press conference.
