- There were many new faces in the Olympic team and we had to get to know everyone. Head coach Ruslan Rotan wanted to convey to everyone his game principles, which he had previously practiced in the Ukrainian youth team. Some were familiar with these requirements, while others began to absorb this information directly in the training process and during sparring. We devoted a lot of time to tactical training to build a team game and structure. We didn't succeed in everything, and the result was a bit disappointing. However, we will continue to work and try to improve our game.

I was very pleased to see the captain's armband next to my shirt in the dressing room. I felt incredibly responsible and it was very motivating. This is a very important moment for me, because it was the first match of the Ukrainian Olympic team.

The atmosphere in the stands in Japan was not much different from European traditions - the fans supported their team just as passionately and pushed them forward. It was clear that they were worried about their national team. As for the game, we faced a very strong team. Their players have a very combative character, a kind of football samurai. It's worth noting that the Japanese were practising for the Olympic team, so perhaps they were a little better prepared, as they had qualifying competitions ahead of them.

The attitude towards Ukrainians in Japan was excellent, and each of us is very grateful for this welcome. Local players and fans behaved with respect for us and we reciprocated. It is very important that they support Ukraine in such a difficult time when our country is at war and we are being attacked by the aggressor. I would also like to thank the Armed Forces of Ukraine, thanks to which we are able to represent the country in the international arena," said Alexey.
