These tactical changes did not immediately affect the scoreline as both teams tried to break the deadlock. However, in the 81st minute Inter increased their lead with a goal by A. Sanchez, securing the victory for the home side. In an attempt to turn the tide, Empoli made new substitutions: E. Gyasi and M. Nyang came on in place of M. Cancellieri and M. Destro respectively. The match ended 2-0 in favour of Inter, while Empoli failed to break through the opponents' defence. Despite their best efforts, Empoli failed to get back into the game and were left empty handed. Overall, it was a good performance by Inter, who managed to pick up all three points and maintain their position in the Serie A table. Empoli need to regroup and work on tactics before the next match to recover from the defeat.
