Taras Romanchuk: "I feel like a Pole and a Ukrainian"

Former Ukrainian footballer Taras Romanchuk, who in 2018 changed his citizenship to Polish, and in March this year received a call-up to the ranks of the Polish national team, explained why he decided to take such a step.

"I feel Polish and Ukrainian. My grandmother comes from Wlodawa (Polish city at the junction of the borders of Poland, Belarus and Ukraine - ed.). During World War II, her family was resettled in Ukraine, and her documents stated that she was Ukrainian.

I grew up in Ukraine. With my parents we speak Ukrainian, and we teach our son Polish (in 2017 Taras married Kateryna, whom he met in Lublin - ed.). There came a moment when in the house of my parents, I said: we're coming home to Bialystok," said Romanchuk in his recent interview with Sportowe Fakty.

We would like to add that in Poland Yaremchuk plays for Jagiellonia from Bialystok. He recently signed a new contract with this club, which runs until the end of the 2025/26 season.

"I am 32 years old and I am slowly starting to think about my future. Signing this contract is a step towards staying in Bialystok for the rest of my career. I have ambitions and with good health I will continue to work to play in the main squad," Romanchuk said in an interview with Jagiellonia club TV.
