In an interview with Infolibre, UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin spoke about the current state of the controversial European Super League project.
- "It is de facto stopped. No one wants such competition. Football is so strong because people love it and because anyone can dream of participating in the most important competitions. Look at how basketball was destroyed by the Euroleague, which is really a Superleague. Competitions should be open. We return 93.5% of our revenue to the clubs. And UEFA returns 97% of its revenue to football. Big clubs, that is, individuals driven by their own egos, do not understand that even their clubs would not be big without the development of football in small countries. So look at those clubs that wanted to be in the Super League. They don't have players from their academies, they have players from our countries. For me, this idea of the Super League is absolutely dead and meaningless," he said.
