Dynamo Kyiv head coach Oleksandr Shovkovskyi commented on the 2-1 victory over Dnipro-1 in the Ukrainian Premier League matchday 26 on the TV channel.
Alexander Shovkovsky- What are your emotions right now?
- We have made another important step. And I think the understanding of the importance of this victory will come later. The main thing is that we stay in the game. I'm grateful to my guys for being patient and trying to get past the tight defence. In the first half, we had several good opportunities to open the scoring. And then we made a mistake in defence, I think it was childish, and gave the goal to our opponent.
Dnipro were aggressive, trying to put us under pressure. We can say that we succeeded in many things, but we need to understand that we played with a team that is a medal contender. They have their own task. In the second half, we made a few adjustments and managed to score an important goal, which gave us more motivation. And then we pressed the opponent, although the ending was just crazy. There was a penalty on Brazhka, which we believe was a penalty, and then a sending-off.
But we endured until the end and tried to win. We succeeded. We are moving on. We have five matches left - we need to win.
- Tymchyk fouled out of necessity, because the team ran to the referee to demand a penalty...
- You know, you have to play with a cool head. Yes, we had a hot heart, we wanted to win, we were preparing for this game, we knew it would be difficult, we know how strong Dnipro-1 is and how interesting they look. They failed to do some things in recent matches, but they have a good pattern of play.
But we understood that it was just as important for us to score points. In the end, emotions came to the fore, but I repeat once again: we have to be patient to the end, we have to shake the opponent's defence and look for chances. Supryaga had a chance, and if he had made it, everything would have been calmer. It's good that it ended that way and in the last minutes we found an opportunity: we made a penetrating attack and scored a goal. And then we had to be patient and withstand the opponent's onslaught.
Emotions are running high, but this game is history, we need to analyse it and move on. We have difficult matches ahead.
