CEO of Polissya: "The judiciary in Ukraine needs deep reform"

CEO of Polissia Volodymyr Zagurskyi spoke about the referee bonus mechanism discussed at a working meeting of the Ukrainian Premier League member clubs.

Vladimir Zagursky

"Last year, in September, at a working meeting with the former chairman of the referees' committee, Luciano Luci, Polissia football club came up with the idea of introducing bonuses for the refereeing corps based on the results of their work, based on the results of a rating assessment developed by the association itself.

This topic was continued this month - on 2 April, at a working meeting of the Premier League clubs, this idea was again raised. A vote was held and the majority of clubs supported this idea - the creation of a bonus fund and a contribution of UAH 1 million from each Premier League club. This money is to be spent on bonus payments directly to referees at the end of the season, as well as on various technical equipment, events, and printing research. That is, 16 clubs means 16 million hryvnias per season.

We believe that the very essence, the very institute of refereeing in the country, needs to be deeply reformed. And the first thing that was voiced by the head of the Ukrainian Football Association Andriy Shevchenko and supported by the referees' committee is that the first factor is polygraph examinations, and the second equally important factor is proper remuneration for the referee. Accordingly, we are pleased that at least for today these things are reflected in the information space and are being discussed," Zagursky said.
