"Talks about Mykolenko's possible surgery are surprising" - sports doctor

Sports doctor Dmytro Babeliuk, known for his work with Rukh Lviv, commented on the latest rumours surrounding the injury to Ukrainian Everton defender Vitaliy Mykolenko, who suffered in the derby with Liverpool.

"We have the first information on Mykolenko. According to Viktor Vatsko, Vitaliy was diagnosed with a torn ankle ligament, which is not surprising.

What is surprising is the talk of a possible surgery, which can only be performed if other structures in the joint are injured, as well as interosseous syndesmosis. The mechanism of the injury did not indicate such a diagnosis, so it is surprising that there are stories about surgery and missing the Euros at all.

Instead, after consultations with surgeons, according to Vatsko, it is, as I expected, about 6 weeks of rehabilitation with a return to action for the Euros.

This is more like a typical course of management of an ankle sprain. Tomorrow Mykolenko will have a final consultation with a specialist in London, after which a final decision will be made. I hope the player will recover for the key tournaments and this shin injury will not spoil his summer," Babeliuk wrote on Telegram.
