Former Ukrainian footballer Oleh Yashchuk, who played in Belgium for many years, told us what he expects from the Ukrainian national team's performance at Euro 2024. It will be recalled that in the group stage of the tournament, the Blue and Yellows' group rivals will be Belgium, Romania and Slovakia.
Oleg Yashchuk- I can't help but ask about Serhii Rebrov's team's opponent at Euro 2024 in our group - Belgium. Does the Ukrainian national team have a chance to compete for first place?
- It will not be easy with any team at this level. It used to be possible to say that a team was passable, a country was not footballing. Nowadays, you have to make a lot of effort to achieve a result. I am very interested in how Ukraine will play against Belgium. The Belgians are not the same as they were a couple of years ago. That Belgian team could fight for victory in international tournaments. Now it is unrealistic for them.
- In general, what do you expect from the national team at the European Championships in Germany?
- The minimum task that needs to be set is to get out of the group. Once we're out, it's already positive, we can move on. And there is already how lucky. We know that luck plays a significant role in some matches.
At the very least, we need to reach the last 16. I can say that the potential of this team is serious. Especially if you look at which of our guys are playing in which European championships. At the moment, our national team is really solid.
