Former Dynamo Kyiv striker Oleksandr Gladkiy recalled his career period at the club.
"Transition to Dynamo is a painful topic. I wanted to prove something to someone. A big mistake of my life, that going to Dnipro, I wanted to prove something to someone, and going to Dynamo, I wanted to prove something to someone. And then I realised that I don`t have to prove anything to anyone. You don`t have to prove that you are the best, you don`t have to prove that it`s a mistake when someone plays instead of you. You only have to prove something to yourself. You always have to look at yourself.
I am very grateful to Serhiy Rebrov for this transition, very grateful for the time I spent at Dynamo, but, unfortunately, it didn`t work out. It didn`t go at all. I didn`t blame anyone for it, I blamed only myself and looked for mistakes only in myself.
I myself was the initiator to unilaterally terminate the contract with Dynamo and leave. I understood then that it was not my team and I could not play there. I understood a lot of things for myself, and I don`t regret. In general, I am not used to regret anything. Perhaps, I had to go through it then, and I did it. And I think that I became stronger because of it.
In such a club as Dynamo Kyiv, nobody will wait, nobody will give you a match, two, three, four. When you come, you have to give the result, and I could not give it. I am probably to blame for that. And after that I realised that I didn`t need to prove anything to anyone.
Did the seventh game number put pressure on me at Dynamo? I didn`t even think about it. I was told that he was available, so I said that he should be. Yes, Andriy Shevchenko is our legend, but in that situation I did not think about it. I really wanted number 21, but it was occupied.
