FIFA is ready to allow national championship matches to be held abroad

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is breaking with decades of tradition and is likely to allow some championship matches to be played in other countries.

It is expected that at the upcoming World Federation Congress in Bangkok (Thailand), the rules that have so far blocked such actions will be revised, AP reports, citing a reliable source. FIFA is currently setting up a working group of 10-15 people to review the rules in question within a few months. The head of the structure, Gianni Infantino, wants to conquer more markets and make the game attractive to people who are not particularly interested in football.

However, according to a person apparently close to the top of FIFA and an AP source, there is a significant group within the FIFA Council that opposes such actions, initiated mainly by President Gianni Infantino.
