The Lithuanian Football Federation has officially announced that UEFA has imposed disciplinary sanctions on it.
The Lithuanian women were scheduled to play against Belarus in the 2025 UEFA Women's European Championship qualifiers on 31 May and 4 June . The Lithuanians refused to take the same pitch as the team of a state sponsor of terrorism. UEFA informed the LFF that in both matches the Lithuanians would be awarded technical defeats with a score of 0:3, and the federation would be fined 5,000 euros.
"Sanctions and monetary fines are not the main thing, it was important to reiterate the LFF's position on the war and aggressors," said LFF President Edgaras Stankevičius. At the same time, the Lithuanians continue to have a realistic claim to second place in the group and the opportunity to advance to the next stage.
