Bayer head coach Xabi Alonso commented on the defeat of his team in the Europa League final from Atalanta (0:3).
"We have to accept that Atalanta was better and deserved the cup today. We had problems after Atalanta's first goal and we didn't find a solution. It was very difficult for us to create good opportunities. It was not our day.
They were stronger. This is the fruit of the great work that Gasperini has done and I wish him all the best for his future career.
"Atalanta are a very brave team. Its players are not afraid to find themselves in one-on-one situations. When we had a small chance to make a breakthrough, they defended superbly. They've been playing like that for years. Usually we play better positionally, but today was not the case," Alonso was quoted by UEFA's official website.
