The only goal of the match was scored by midfielder Granit Djaka in the 16th minute of the match. Interestingly, just before the break, Bayer were left in the minority after the suspension of Odilon Kossouna, but the team of Xabi Alonso managed to bring the game to a victorious end.
Thus, Bayer completed a "golden double" in the current season, having earlier also won the gold medals of the German championship. Leverkusen won the German Cup for the second time in their history.
