"I would not bury Mykolenko's chances for Euro 2024" - sports doctor

Sports doctor Dmytro Babeliuk assessed the complexity of the injury suffered by Ukraine defender Vitaliy Mykolenko in the match against Moldova.

"The Moldovan defender played tough against Vitaliy, who left his right foot as a support for the shot.

I should say the main thing right away - this is a new injury. The ankle injury at Everton was on his left leg.

As for the mechanism of this injury, the contact occurred in the foot, which was clearly stuck in the lawn, which the player put in a turned state for a shot. Thus, the internal ligament group was damaged, as well as potentially interosseous syndesmosis.

I wouldn't bury Vitaliy's chances for the Euros, players often react emotionally to such things in the last friendly game. The fact that the player was holding his foot immediately after the impact, and not the ligaments, also gives hope.

There is hope that Vitaliy will still be able to go to the Euros, but he will miss the first 1-2 matches if he is diagnosed with a bruise or sprain.

If the injury is confirmed and the internal ligament is torn, then the Euros are ruled out. The minimum recovery time from such an injury is 3-5 weeks. We should wait for the first examination data and the reaction of the joint itself to the injury," Babeliuk wrote in Telegram.
