Russia is afraid to broadcast Euro 2024 matches with the participation of the Ukrainian national team

Russian television will not broadcast the matches in which the Ukrainian national team is participating.

The main sports TV channel in Russia is Match TV, owned by Gazprom Media. Sources in the TV company confirmed that the matches of the Ukrainian national team in the group stage of the tournament will not be shown. The channel has no idea what to do if Ukraine leaves the group and makes it to the semifinals or even the final, but they hope that this will not happen.

"Maybe somewhere up there, at the very top, there is a plan in case the Ukrainian national team succeeds, but nothing of the sort has been discussed at any meetings, and no one is saying a word about it now. We generally live in the mode of solving problems as they arise," the sources said.

Nevertheless, Russians will still have the opportunity to see the Ukrainian national team play. The rights to broadcast Euro 2024 in Russia were granted to the Okko online cinema owned by Sberbank. They will show the games of the Ukrainian national team, but it will be paid content by subscription.

Ukraine will play its first match at Euro 2024 on June 17 against Romania. The second match will take place on June 21 against Slovakia, and the third on June 26 against Belgium.
