Ruslan Rotan, head coach of the Ukrainian Olympic team, spoke about the team's preparations for the Olympic football tournament.
"We are moving on to the main aspect. In less than a month, we will gather near Bordeaux and prepare for the Olympics itself. I believe this is just the beginning. We need to be ready psychologically, first of all.
We have to be not only physically but also mentally prepared for this tournament, know what we are doing, and most importantly, know what we want. Because we all understand that this is our image, we are at war in our country, and we must clearly understand that we must give our best, work for our country.
We have decided on the lineup, but now we have another problem. In about 5-7 days we will name the squad and talk to the clubs. Let's just say that not everyone will like this dialog, but I think we all clearly understand that the Olympics are important for our country.
I emphasize once again: if there were no war, it might be possible to offer some discounts. But not at this time. I think we have to work as a team for our country," Rotan told Ukrainian Athletics.
In the group stage of the 2024 Olympics, Ukraine will play Iraq (July 24), Morocco (July 27) and Argentina (July 30).
