Yesterday, on June 16, Slovenia and Denmark drew 1-1 in the 1st round of the Euro 2024 group stage match.
The Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen, who scored the goal, was recognized as the player of the match. But he deserved this award, first of all, because of his incredible will to live.
Exactly three years ago, on the same day, Eriksen survived death on the football field during the Euro 2020 match(the tournament was held in 2021) between the national teams of Denmark and Finland. In the 43rd minute of that match, the Dane fell unconscious on the lawn - Christian suffered a cardiac arrest lasting 5 minutes. The resuscitation team managed to help the player right on the field, and then he was transported to a military hospital near the stadium.
Later, after a long rehabilitation, Eriksen was fitted with a cardioverter-defibrillator (a device that automatically helps in case of heart rhythm changes by giving a small discharge to stabilize it). And the footballer not only returned to normal life, but also continued to play football at the top level.
Today, Eriksen plays for Manchester United and also continues to play for the national team. In yesterday's match, he scored the only goal for the Danish national team. This match was his first game at the European Championships after Euro 2020. Exactly 1100 days have passed between these events!
