Taras Stepanenko: "You need to play in front of your own goal simply"

Ukraine captain Taras Stepanenko summed up the results of the 1st round of the Euro 2024 group stage match with Romania (0: 3) for the UEFA press service.

- I am very disappointed with our game. Today we were not the same team as always. Romania deserved this victory and we must continue. We have two more games and we have to be strong and change the situation.

Sometimes bad things happen at the most important moments, and today it happened. We controlled the game, we were on the ball, but we were immediately punished for the first mistake. In such tournaments, you sometimes need to play simply in front of your goal, and the coach warned us about this before the game.

I would call Stanciu's goal a Euro goal - it was a very good shot. But, to be honest, I was very confident that we would be more aggressive in the second half, score and break the tie. Unfortunately, this did not happen," said Taras.
