Former player of Lviv "Karpaty" Mykhailo Kopolovets commented on the defeat of the national team of Ukraine in the match against Romania (0:3) in the first round of the group stage of Euro-2024.
"You can not play like this for the national team. I did not see that people want to win. Yes, some of the first 15 minutes you can see that we have a stronger class of players, but the Romanians were much stronger team spirit.
We have players, but we do not have a team yet. There are some players: Mudryk is running around, Sudakov is running around, Tsygankov is running around. They are disconnected from each other, there was no integrity, no pattern. Unfortunately, it is a catastrophe. Lunin is also, of course, a disaster. It is hard to understand how he misses such goals. There he and Matvienko made the first goal together.
Romanians played with heart and soul. When a team goes out and just plays on the verge of self-sacrifice - that's how you should play for the national team. Our people - it feels like some "la-la", some dudes. I don`t know why. Maybe they just came on vacation. The club championship is over, and maybe they are on vacation now. They didn't lose this match, they just gave it away.
I didn't see people really playing for the national team, for the people, for the country. We can turn a blind eye to everything, when it doesn't work, when we can't score. But I can't forgive this game, because I don't see that the players wanted to win," said Kopolovets.
