Head coach of the Slovak national team Francesco Calzona commented on the defeat of his team from England (1:2) in yesterday's match 1/8 finals of Euro 2024.
"I am proud, we played a great game against a world-class team and one of the favorites. We allowed very little to be created by the England national team and we almost made it to the next stage. Unfortunately, in the end we didn't make it. In extra-time we spent half the time in the opponent's half of the field, I am very proud of my team.
Told the players in our team that they did a great job, they were fantastic. We were on the same level with all our opponents (at the group stage of Euro 2024 the Slovakian opponents were Ukraine, Belgium and Romania - ed.), we played attacking soccer and we had chances to score.
I am very proud of the guys. They are very upset, because we were so close to go further. But that's soccer. It's a proud thing to coach players like that. They made the difference on the pitch and I am very grateful to have them," Calzona's official UEFA website quoted Calzona as saying.
