Viktor Leonenko: "If I were Chelsea, I would not only let Mudryk go to the Olympics, but I would also pay him extra"

Former Dynamo Kyiv forward Viktor Leonenko told us what he thinks about the clubs' decision not to let some of their players join the Ukrainian Olympic team for the 2024 Olympics.

- "Don't forget that Shakhtar will play in the Champions League group, while Dynamo will qualify. That's probably why they were not released. Clubs around the world, for the most part, did not take the Olympics seriously, with only Messi strengthening Argentina in 2008.

That's why I don't understand at all why Super Bowls are held when people are just coming off vacation. Nobody needs these matches! We should call such matches not the Super Cup, but the Semi-Cup.

I don't blame the clubs. They are even reluctant to let players go to the first teams, especially the main ones, although everyone in the UPL has about the same level. And if someone else gets injured at the Olympics?

If Sabo's main players were taken away, he would immediately go to the president and say that he was not responsible for the result.

- Do you think the UAF did everything possible to ensure that Rotan got the strongest players? "Chelsea did not let go of Mudryk, Benfica did not let go of Trubin, but at the same time, Lisbon let Otamendi go to Argentina.

- What does the UAF have to do with it, what will they do? It depends on the clubs and their coaches who are responsible for the result. Moreover, Trubin played well at the Euros and Benfica does not want to risk him.

But Mudryk, if I were Chelsea, watching him play, I would let him go to the Olympics, and I would pay him extra.
