Former Dynamo Kyiv midfielder Milos Ninkovic told what he thinks about Oleksandr Shovkovskiy's work as the head coach of this team, and also assessed the chances of the Bilo-Syni in the confrontation with Partizan Belgrade in the 2nd qualifying round of the Champions League.
"If you look at the current Dynamo Kyiv, you can see that there are five or six players of the Ukrainian national team in the squad. There used to be a lot more legionnaires. Of course, Dynamo is the favorite in the confrontation with Partizan, but in soccer it has never guaranteed success.
As for the appointment of Oleksandr Shovkovskiy, I was very surprised when I learned that he took charge of Dynamo. I always imagined him to be a goalkeepers' coach or something like that... I can safely say that I was shocked by this news. (Laughs). On the other hand, he worked with different top coaches, such as Valeriy Lobanovskiy and Yuriy Semin, and this experience certainly shaped him as a soccer personality in many ways. Now I am very interested in following Shovkovskiy's coaching career.
How do I remember him? Shovkovskiy was always serious. Always. And he could be grumpy. (Laughs). He also had a slightly different sphere of interests compared to the rest of the team players. When I came to Dynamo, there was a big generational difference between me and Shovkovskiy. Maybe that's why he was so strict. Only during the period when Andriy Shevchenko returned to Dynamo, Shovkovskiy and I really got to know each other.
Taking into account Shovkovskiy's personality, I have no doubt that the team has excellent discipline. This can become a separate advantage of Dynamo. And Andriy Yarmolenko has returned to the team. And there are experienced players in the squad, who know Dynamo. This is also a plus. I think, now I will follow Dynamo even more. At least because the team is coached by Shovkovskiy," Arena Sport quoted Ninkovic as saying.
