Oleh Dulub, former head coach of the Cherkasy LNZ, shared his impressions of Euro 2024 with TaToTake.
- Who will you be rooting for in the final and why?
- No one, I'll just watch the football because they are two completely different teams. Spain has a very good attacking group, which is highly effective, but at the same time, they have the largest number of missed chances in this championship. England is a team that is, let's say, more pragmatic, because they have been improving their game from match to match. Therefore, I will be watching more of the tactical pattern of the game and cheering for beautiful football.
- What are the main ideas and trends you have noticed at this tournament?
- First of all, the leveling of the class of the game. Most of the matches in this championship were played with a one-goal difference, and when the knockout stages began, many had extra time.
The second trend is more negative for me. It is the erasure of the boundaries that define the national identity of teams. A typical example is the German national team. They reached for the Spanish tiki-taka and have been missing the finals for several tournaments now.
- What are the top 3 best players of the European Championship?
- It's hard to name three, I'll name six. These are the players who cannot be overlooked in the tournament. The Spanish national team: Rodri, Fabian Ruiz, Dani Olmo. The English have Bellingham, Germany - Musiala, the Netherlands - Gakpo.
- Top 3 opening of Euro 2024?
- Of course, Yamal. Arda Güler in Turkey, Nico Williams in Spain and Mamardashvili in the Georgian national team.
- Whose coaching work did you like the most?
- Number one for me is Ralf Rangnick. It was so interesting to watch the Austrian national team that I was even disappointed when they didn't get past the Turks.
- What do you think the Ukrainian national team lacked?
- I still have Sudakov's moment before my eyes - I think it was in the 90+ minute match against Belgium. When he played in the center and just hit the goalkeeper. That's the kind of luck that matters a lot. Especially in such big tournaments.
