FIFA creates an emergency committee to manage the Tunisian Football Federation

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has appointed an emergency committee to run the Tunisian Football Federation (FFT) in an attempt to resolve the crisis at the local headquarters.

According to information from Tunisia, FIFA has decided to appoint an interim emergency management committee. This body will be responsible for managing the affairs of the FFT until elections are held.

This intervention by the governing body of world football in Tunisia ends the powers of the federal governing body, which was recently headed by Wassef Jlael. He took over football in the North African country in October 2023 after the previous president, Wadi Jhari, was imprisoned. Acting President Wassef Djaliel has twice tried to organize a congress to hold normal elections, but this has not happened.

All the candidates for the presidency nominated to date have been rejected. FIFA will soon announce the composition of the standardization committee, and their names are currently being confirmed by Zurich. The powers of the relevant committee will end with the election of a new federal office, and the maximum term is January 31, 2025.

FIFA clarified that this decision was made in agreement with the Confederation of African Football.
