Former footballer of the national team of Ukraine Andriy Polunin shared his impressions of yesterday's match of the Ukrainian Olympic team with Argentina (0:2) at the Games-2024, and also assessed the performance of the "blue-yellow" at this Olympics.

Andrei Polunin

"I have no complaints about the Ukrainian national team, which resisted the opponent, which most experts considered the favorite. It is only regrettable that we failed to realize our chances - we lacked performance skills. Thanks to a detailed study of the opponent's game and our coaching staff decided on the right tactics. Unfortunately, luck was not on our side today.

In the end, we have to pay tribute to the Argentines, who had several world champions in their lineup. They skillfully played for the result and although they were satisfied even with a draw, in the end, they celebrated the victory.

In my opinion, the Ukrainian national team performed well. Could they expect to qualify for the next round? It's hard to say, especially since the main competitors in our group - the Argentines and Moroccans - played in the fighting squads that defend the colors of top foreign clubs.

But our coach Ruslan Rotan could not count even on the best players playing in UPL. The same Sudakov, Bondarenko from Shakhtar, Nazarenko from Polesya would have strengthened the national team. However, for some reason club interests were more important for them.... Why such an ugly thing happened, we should, first of all, ask the UAF management. It is good that our players do not forget to thank the AFU, which courageously defend Ukraine from the Russian aggressor. But when the best of them were offered to defend the honor of the Motherland at the sporting front line - at the most prestigious competitions - the Olympics, they backed off.

The same applies to Ukrainians competing abroad - the "Englishmen" Mudryk and Zabarnyy. You see, they are tired and their clubs are against it. Or maybe they banally did not want to?", - said Polunin.
