Former Dynamo Kyiv coach Leonid Buriak shared his impressions of his former team's first match with Scottish Rangers (1-1) in the 3rd Champions League qualifying match, which took place yesterday in Lublin.
- " We saw two different halves, the first of which was of high quality performed by Dynamo, and the second was nervous ," said Buriak. " Kyiv are just entering the season, they have a lot of young players in their team, which affects the game as a whole. It is noticeable that the opponent is quite a match for Dynamo, and of course everyone expected a positive result from our team - a victory.
- Didn't you find young Mykhavko's appearance in the starting lineup surprising?
- "Dynamo lost Dyachuk to injury, and we had to make a decision. Mykhavko played - with his mistakes, of course, but in the long run, he is a very good footballer. In this match, he tried, but effort alone is not enough, you also need skill. Popov, of course, is already playing at a decent level, but the position of center back needs to be strengthened. "Dynamo could use one Yarmolenko in each line...
- Did you expect this kind of game from Rangers?
- They have the same problems. Of course, Rangers is a serious team with experienced performers, but they are, figuratively speaking, not higher than us. Rangers' main trump cards are aggressiveness, good pressure, and a lot of quality wing passes. They will demonstrate all this again in Glasgow, where the Scottish fans will also increase the pressure on Dynamo. Unfortunately, with the score 1-0, the leading players of the White and Blues did not play well. It was necessary to decide the fate of the match earlier.
- Shaparenko did not play his best match...
- He also tried his best. In the first half, Mykola could have scored. However, after the break, both he and the other Dynamo players did not act in the best way, quite nervously until the last seconds... I should also mention the game of Bushchan, who acted at the level and twice saved Dynamo in very difficult situations. As for the conceded goal, Vivcharenko had to get closer to the opponent on the flank, attack him and not allow him to make a pass. Such last-minute free-kicks are always very dangerous, and Bushchan was right to reprimand Vivcharenko immediately after the final whistle.
"Rangers' football is simple but reliable. I repeat, it will be difficult to play with them in Scotland. In Glasgow, Rangers will also continuously load the ball into our penalty area. In addition, we do not know what the refereeing will be like away from home.
- Can a goal conceded in the last minute negatively affect Dynamo's tone at the start of the season?
- I hope not. "Dynamo will play another match in the Ukrainian league before the return leg against Rangers, and the emotions will subside a bit. It is important to get rid of the tendency when we bring problems to ourselves. In Glasgow, Kyiv need to control the ball as much as possible and focus on their own level of football, demonstrated in the first half of the match in Lublin.
