Last season, Everton experienced huge difficulties in the Premier League and was close to the relegation zone due to penalties in the form of deductions for violating financial fair play rules. However, the Toffees managed to cope with this and retain their registration in the elite division of England.

In November 2023, the Liverpool club was fined ten points for violations in the 2021/2022 season, but after an appeal, this sanction was reduced to six points. After that, in April of this year, they were deducted another two points for violations in the 2022/2023 season.

But this trend is likely to continue for the club in the new campaign. According to TheSunSport, an independent commission is considering another fine for Everton. The reason for this is interest payments related to the stadium. Initially, the amount of £17 million was discussed, but the commission immediately rejected it and started considering a case for £6.5 million.

At the moment, the independent commission has not yet informed either Everton or the Premier League when they will make a decision, despite the fact that both parties insist on receiving an answer as soon as possible. The Premier League argues that the disputed $6.5 million should be added to the club's expenses, as it was used for current expenses. However, the Toffees insist that this item should be removed, as the stadium costs are not taken into account in the calculation.

If the commission decides in favor of the league, Everton faces a points deduction before the start of the new season or at the beginning of the new season.
