Former Dynamo Kyiv midfielder Florin Cernat recalled his team's confrontation with Steaua Bucharest at the group stage of the Champions League 2006/07.

When he saw our group with Steaua, Real Madrid and Lyon, he said: "With "Steaua" we will quickly sort out, we will take six points, with "Lyon" we can draw, with "Real" the same. To which I told him: "It's not that easy with Steaua". And he just laughed.
In the first round we played in Kyiv with Steaua. And we lost 1:4. It was a serious blow for us. I don`t know why I didn`t play in that match. I was told that it was because I was also Romanian, something like that.
The game started and Gionia opened the scoring. Soon we equalized thanks to Rebrov's goal. I remember I said that everything should be fine now, but then we conceded three more times.
After the match we go to the pool. I said to Shatskikh: "Well, how are we doing?". And he replied: "Come on, they had four chances and scored four goals".
