"One referee's decision sent us to the Europa League" - Rangers captain

Scottish Rangers captain James Tavernier has admitted that he is puzzled by the suspension of his team's defender Jefte in yesterday's Champions League 3rd qualifying round return leg against Dynamo Kyiv (0-2).

"Of course, we are all disappointed that we no longer have the opportunity to continue the fight to qualify for the main stage of the Champions League. Yes, of course, we will still play in the main European Cup grid, but in the Europa League. And it was the referee's decision that sent us there.

I spoke to the referee about that episode. He explained that there was an elbow in the face. But Jefte simply jumped to the ball before the opponent. I thought there would not even be a foul. Anyway, there was no malice in Jefte's actions. It was a 50/50 fight for the ball flying through the air. Jefte jumped out early and already in the air, there was contact in the struggle.

But nothing can be done, this match must be put behind us. Learn the necessary lessons from it and move on. After all, the next game awaits us on the weekend," Tavernier said after the match with Dynamo.
