Press conference. Vladyslav Lupashko: "The referee could have awarded a penalty to Dynamo. And there are doubts about the penalt

Head coach of Lviv's Karpaty Vladyslav Lupashko summarized his team's match against Dynamo Kyiv (1-3) in the 3rd round of the Ukrainian championship yesterday.

Vladislav Lupashko

- My impressions of the match are positive on the one hand, but disappointing on the other. I believe that we did not deserve this result. We created pressure, had a chance to equalize, even scored a goal that was disallowed because of offside.

The referee could have awarded a penalty kick to Dynamo... We were awarded a penalty - there are doubts about it, because there was a minimal touch. In the moment with Ocheretko, there was also a touch, but no penalty was awarded.

There is disappointment, but compared to the first game, we have taken a step forward in courage, in playing the game, in trying to dominate the football field. I want more pressure from the first minutes, so that we run and create pressure, no matter who we play against.

- After the last match against Kryvbas, you said that you expected a different game from Karpaty. Today, the team dominated the last 25 minutes. Does it look like what you expect?

- One hundred percent, it looks like that. This is the team we want to see, but not for 25 minutes, but for the whole match. This is what we need.

- After the break, we saw more aggressive Karpaty in the attack. Did you have a conversation with the players?

- We did not ask the players to sit low in defense. We wanted the players to meet the opponent high. However, the players got a little physically tired. There is a lot of talk that the field affects this, but it is psychology. We need to change it, we need to be even bolder. We understand who we are playing - most coaches would choose a defensive scheme. However, we wanted to play higher. "Dynamo forced us to play defense. During the break, we rested, talked and returned to the game. The second half was better.

- How much support did you feel from the fans today?

- It was incredible. Again, I say that football is alive in Ukraine and we need to convey this to people, to show the UAF so that they increase quotas. Most matches are played with 50 or 100 people at the stadium and you don't want to watch that. The players felt supported today. When fans drive the team forward, it is real football. I emphasize to the players that they are happy people because they can play matches in conditions where they are supported.

- Are you satisfied with the speed of Karpaty's transition from defense to attack?

- As for speed, I would like to have more speed, but this is a personality trait. As for the transition, it was better in the second half, because in the first half we lost balls. We tried, but we also had simple losses.

- Did you plan a quick goal?

- I have never told the players to score quick goals. The plan was that we start aggressively and want to play like that until the final whistle. We scored because we were pressing. We managed to close Dynamo in their penalty area. At halftime, we said that we need to keep doing this. After all, as we have seen, the players of the Ukrainian national team can also lose balls. This needs to be understood.
