Italian Roma head coach Daniele De Rossi shared his first impressions of working with his team's Ukrainian newcomer, striker Artem Dovbik.
"Dovbik's characteristics are not that far from Lukaku. But we are not going to "fit" him to some other player: Artem has a different age, different experience and career. In Dovbik we have acquired not a "false nine", but someone who puts a point - a "nine" who penetrates space very well.
Dovbik is a great striker, very fast. He knows how to interact with his teammates, and he's tactically sound. He is strong in combination play, decisive in the opponent's penalty area, which he demonstrated in the Ukrainian and Spanish championships. Yes, something always changes from game to game, but we always try to make him understand what we want from him.
At the same time, we try not to give Dovbik too many instructions. Because during the preseason training I realized that I was asking too much from the rookies. As a result, they came on the field and wanted to do ten things at once. So we've reduced the amount of instructions a little bit. We are trying to make them focus on the fundamental things," De Rossi said at a press conference dedicated to today's match against Cagliari in the 1st round of the Italian Championship.
