Kyiv Dynamo lost to Austrian Salzburg (0:2) in the first play-off match of the Champions League qualification round, which significantly complicated their task to enter the main stage of this tournament.
We have already told you in detail about the seeding of the Champions League main stage draw, but under the current circumstances, it would be useful to study the similar situation in the Europa League main stage: Dynamo, in case of failure against Salzburg, will continue their Eurocup performance in the season 2024/25.
It should be reminded that from this season in the Europa League, as well as in the Champions League, there will no longer be a group stage of several groups: now the main stage of the tournament will be represented by a single league of 36 teams, each of which will play 8 matches against different opponents (4 at home and 4 away). The draw for the main stage of the Europa League will form all these matches.
Before the draw, the participants of the tournament will be divided into 4 baskets with 9 teams in each basket. During the draw each team will get two opponents from each basket. With one of them the match will be home, with the other - away.
UEFA club coefficients will be traditionally used to form the baskets.
If we assume that Dynamo will fail against Salzburg on the sum of two matches, and in all other pairs of the play-off round of the Champions League and Europa League qualification round the teams with higher club coefficients (conditional favorites in the pairs) will go further, then the composition of the baskets at the draw of the main stage of the Europa League will be as follows.
