"Sampdoria have confirmed that Andrea Pirlo has been sacked as head coach after 14 months in charge.
The former Italian national team player leaves the club after a poor start to the new season, with only one point in the opening three rounds, leaving Sampdoria in the penultimate place in the standings.
Last season, Pirlo failed to lead the team to Serie A, finishing the campaign in seventh place with 55 points, 18 points behind Como, who received a direct promotion.
