Famous journalist Mykola Nesenyuk assessed the application of the Ukrainian national team for the September matches of the League of Nations.

Mykola Neseniuk

"After the Ukrainian national team for the two Nations League games in September was announced, a whole chorus of observers, experts, bloggers and other people writing about football began to make claims about the correctness of the players' selection for our main team. They say that after the failure at Euro 2024 (and it was a failure, no matter what anyone says), the team needs to be renewed - the national team of Ukraine should be strengthened with new players. I think the team's coach Serhiy Rebrov thinks the same way. One problem is where to get such players?

Obviously, many of the national team players did not play well at the Euros. But they still remain the strongest or almost the strongest among those who are available. There is no need to name a bunch of players who, in the opinion of the above-mentioned observers, deserve to be called up to the national team because they played well in the last matches of our championship.

Why not? Because, firstly, almost every name mentioned by the "experts" has the ears of their agents sticking out half a meter, and secondly, if the proposed players were really better than those in the national team, they would now be doing photo shoots in the uniforms of clubs in the leading European championships, where they would be hired for big money, and not cowering in a bus on the way to Lviv, Poltava, Oleksandriya or Zhytomyr.

And most importantly, the national team of Ukraine is first and foremost a football team, whose players, in addition to a certain level of skill, must understand the requirements of the coaches and be in sync with their partners. If it were otherwise, the national team would not need a coach at all - the team would be determined by the audience's vote or bloggers' recommendations.

So let's leave Rebrov alone. He is a qualified coach, as evidenced by the titles of the teams he has led. If we suddenly had a few new Andriy Shevchenko's, they would definitely be in the national team. But there are none among those offered to Rebrov. Because, unfortunately, we don't have them at all. So let's not interfere with the national team coach's choice of those who will play for Ukraine. He knows best!" Nesenyuk wrote on his Facebook page.
