Czech Republic midfielder Lukas Provod tried to explain his team's crushing defeat to Georgia (1:4) in yesterday's match of the 1st round of the 2024/25 Nations League.
"We had a plan for this game and I don't think it was a bad one, it was a good one. But when you concede once, second, third time, it's difficult to realize any plan after that.
At the same time, it's inexplicable to me that we couldn't handle this situation better. We should have created more up front, played more compact in defense, played better in all components. And this applies to everyone in our team.
What broke our game? Probably the first conceded goal, because before that we looked, in general, confident, especially in the first twenty minutes of the match. And what happened in the second half is completely inexplicable for me.
We must carefully analyze this match, because something like this should never happen again. I have no explanation for what happened today - only apologies. You can not play for the national team like that.
Now no one but us can fix the situation. We must show a completely different game against Ukraine on Tuesday. On the one hand, it will be difficult to play in three days, on the other hand - it is good that the match with Ukraine is so close, because we can already on Tuesday regain the trust of the fans, many of whom came to Tbilisi to support us and saw all this.... I want to apologize to them and thank them. It would be better for us to play in three days than to leave after such a defeat and meet only in two months," Isport.cz quoted Provod as saying.
