Myron Markevych: "Rebrov should continue to work, but look who is working with him - there is a lot of, let's say, garbage"

Former head coach of the Ukrainian national team Myron Markevych shared his thoughts on the team's performance in the UEFA Nations League matches in September.

- What is your general reaction to the match, what are your thoughts and impressions?

- We played better than against Albania - that's for sure. There were some gross mistakes in defense, but the team looked better.

- But it was in the second half, because the first half was again unsuccessful. And this is already a trend. What could be the problem here?

- I don't know, it's hard to say, you have to be there to see what the training process is like.

- Have you had similar cases in your career? If so, what was the root of the problem?

- There have been all sorts of cases, yes, it's a coaching job. As a rule, it's the other way around - they play well in the first half, and then they can get hooked if the team is not physically ready.

- Many people believe that this is Serhiy Rebrov's problem, and there has already been a lot of talk about his resignation from fans and journalists.

- But it's understandable. "Who is to blame?" The coach. If the team wins, the coach loses. That's how it was, is and will be.

- Do you think this is a point from which there is no way back to rectify the situation, or does Rebrov need more time?

- My opinion is that he should probably continue to work, but look at who is working with him - there is a lot of, let's say, garbage.

- What is the main problem of this national team?

- Defense, because it's so easy to let them score...

- Team actions or individual players?

- I mean everyone, not just the defenders. It's a team game. Defense is one of the most important things. If the team likes to play only with the ball, then nothing good will happen. An example is Spain. Yes, they control a lot, but as soon as they lose the ball, they immediately get it back. Unfortunately, we don't have that in Ukraine.
