Former sports director of Veres: "I think Gabovda is just using the club for self-promotion. He is a narcissist"

Former Veres sporting director Serhii Koval spoke about his time at the Rivne club.

"Veres had a good team, where most people helped each other, especially at the very beginning - the First League, promotion to the UPL. Later, more people joined the club, some of them were, let's say, unnecessary, but the president made such decisions, which he had every right to do.

Who interfered with me? I had the most tense relationship with Yuriy Gabovda. Yuriy has a friend who is one of Veres's former sponsors and asked Nadein to hire him. He came to Veres as an agent, not a sporting director, and brought a player with him - defender Julio Cesar, who had already left the club. Then Gabovda was given the position of sports director of the academy, but for some reason he constantly went to all the first team's training sessions, even asking the coaching staff to allow him to train with the first team.

At some point, I just felt uncomfortable with Gabovda. At first, he behaved completely differently, and at some point there was too much of him in the public space. I turn on the news about Veres, and there is Gabowda everywhere. It's kind of strange. You have to admit that there are not so many Lysytskyi's from Kolos or Bayenko's from Kryvbas.

I think that Gabowda is just using Veres for self-promotion, to make himself look good. He is a narcissist, in every sense of the word. The person who loves himself the most admires himself. Don't think I'm jealous, I just have a different type of character. You just have to do your job, and your work will speak for you, not the other way around.

As such, I had no conflict with Gabowda while I was an advisor to the president. Later, because of Gabovda, I did not get along with Serhiy Lavrynenko, although I was the one who initiated his invitation. We had several options, and I convinced the president to appoint Lavrynenko," Koval said.
