"It should take Malinowski three months to return to the field, provided the surgery is successful," - sports doctor

Sports doctor Dmytro Babeliuk commented on the terrible injury to Ukrainian midfielder Ruslan Malinowski of Italian club Genoa, who was injured in yesterday's 0-2 Italian league match against Venice.

"Ruslan's injury looks really scary. He buried himself in the lawn, plus the weight and inertia of his body. An extremely unfortunate coincidence.

Due to the fact that the foot buried and fixed in the lawn, and the body continued to move forward, a force was generated that tore the internal ligaments of the ankle, which led to dislocation of the bones in the joint.

Such a dislocation is also possible in case of a rupture of the structure between the tibia and fibula, called syndesmosis, which holds the foot in its physiological angles.

Ruslan will definitely have to undergo surgery and miss three months of training. The purpose of the surgery will be to restore the ligament structure so that the joint maintains balance. The next task will be rehabilitation, so that the joint function is fully restored. At an older age, rehabilitation is always more difficult, so I wish Ruslan endurance.

I do not expect any fractures, but there will be enough work with the ligaments. Nevertheless, as a rule, three months are enough to return to the field, provided the surgery is successful, there are no complications and the rehabilitation goes smoothly," Babeliuk wrote on his telegram channel.
