Miroslav Stupar on Romanov's refereeing in the Dynamo vs Rukh match

The central match of the 7th round of the Ukrainian championship between Dynamo and Rukh ended in a 0-0 draw. Myroslav Stupar, a former FIFA referee and now a reputable expert, assessed the actions of Vitaliy Romanov, the referee of yesterday's match in Kyiv:

Vitaly Romanov

"They say that the referee should be invisible on the field while controlling the course of events in the match. So yesterday Vitaliy Romanov had one of the best fights of his career, raising the bar for martial arts permits to a high level.

I am convinced that the participants of the confrontation were satisfied with this style of refereeing, as they were able to demonstrate their best qualities. And this is on the condition that the teams did not waste time on reconnaissance, adopting a high pace. Yes, Romanov made some minor mistakes, but they did not affect the result.

As for Dynamo's goal, VAR referee Derevynskyi came to Romanov's aid: the offside of Lviv's Krasnopir, as they say, was on the thin side. I believe that yesterday's Dynamo vs Rukh match was by far the highest quality of those that have already taken place at the start of the UPL season. There were no goals scored, but this is not the fault of the referee, but of the players," Stupar said.
