According to the source, the UEFA Referees Committee informed the referee that this episode should have ended in a penalty kick in favor of Spain. The committee recognized the mistake of both the chief referee and the VAR referee, who did not help to understand the situation correctly.

As a reminder, the scandalous episode occurred in the first extra time with the score 1:1. Later, Spain scored the decisive goal in the 119th minute. As a result, it was the Spaniards who became the winners of Euro 2024.
