As previously reported, Real Madrid's Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin will be absent from the Ukraine national team in preparation for October's Nations League matches against Georgia and the Czech Republic.
The official reason is a viral infection, but Spanish edition edatv.news suggests that the goalkeeper is healthy and simply refused to go to the national team to focus on training at Real Madrid, where he is now the main goalkeeper of the team due to the injury of Thibaut Courtois.
"According to the Ukrainian side, Lunin is not called up to the national team because of a viral process, but the reality could have been different.
Lunin could have turned down call-ups to the Ukrainian national team to fully focus on his role in Real Madrid's starting lineup. Although it is a risky bet, but such a decision could allow Lunin to be in top form and prove his worth before Courtois returns," the publication wrote.
