Myroslav Stupar, a former FIFA referee and now a reputable refereeing expert, commented on the actions of the Austrian refereeing team led by Julian Weinberger in the Nations League match between Ukraine and Georgia.
- In my opinion, the referee chose the right tactic: not to interfere with the players' ability to demonstrate their skills. After all, the relations were generally quite technical teams, and it is a shame that the terrible condition of the lawn at the stadium in Poznan somewhere prevented them from doing so. Nevertheless, in two moments the referee could have punished the participants of the match with yellow cards, but did not do so.
As for the episode at the end of the match, which ended with the goal of the Ukrainian national team, at the beginning of the Georgian combination, the linesman recorded offside in Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. In my opinion, when the offside position is obvious, the referee has every right to stop the game immediately, and not wait, according to the latest methods, for the end of the attack.
Then the emotions of the players and fans would have been saved, and at that moment even the help of VAR would not have been needed. In general, the referee coped with his duties, and there was no obstruction of his decisions," Stupar said.
