Former French center back Raphael Varane recalled the confrontation with the Ukrainian national team in the 2014 World Cup qualifying playoffs.
"I shouldn't have played against Ukraine then. I had a knee problem after the first match, my knee was swollen and painful, I could have missed several months. I put my career on the line then, but I have no regrets, because the head coach and my team needed me. I would not hesitate to do it again," L'Equipe quoted Varane as saying.
It will be recalled that in the first match, the Ukrainian national team defeated the French in Kyiv 2-0, but lost to France in the return match 0-3.
