Napoli striker Romelu Lukaku has spoken about his disappointment after the Belgian national team's exit in the group stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. "The Red Devils were in a quartet with the national teams of Croatia, Morocco, and Canada.
"It was the first time in 29 years that football touched me. I never thought about depression, but then I cried every day for several weeks, even on vacation. My mom and kids were in Milan, but I had no strength. I needed to be alone for a while.
I really want to return to the national team with a good feeling and take on a leadership role. I will be very disappointed if we don't win. That's the only thing this young group of players needs. They have already come a long way, but they can still do a lot more in terms of a winning mentality. I can teach them that," Lukaku said on the Friends of Sports podcast.
